Austrian Winter Pea

Austrian Winter Pea (Pisum sativum subsp. arvense) is an annual forb native to southern and central US states (such as Oregon, Idaho, and Texas) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 4–10 as a cool-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a trailing or vining growth habit, it features compound green leaves with tendrils and produces reddish-purple pea-like flowers. It thrives in well-drained loamy soils and is ideal for overwintering cover cropping, green manure nitrogen enrichment, and forage mixes.
