Awlfruit Sedge

Awlfruit Sedge (Carex stipata) is a perennial forb native to US states nationwide (such as Washington, Minnesota, Ohio, and Georgia) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 1–3 feet with a dense, tufted growth habit, it features spongy, triangular, bright green leaf blades and produces yellowish-green, awl-shaped, spiky seed clusters. It thrives in wet meadows, marshes, stream banks, and ditch bottoms and is ideal for wetland mitigation, retention pond plantings, and stream bank stabilization.
