Big Squirreltail

Big Squirreltail (Elymus multisetus) is a perennial grass native to Western US states (such as California, Nevada, Oregon, and Idaho) that can thrive in USDA Zones 4–8. Reaching a mature height of 1–2 feet with an upright bunching growth habit, it features narrow, grayish-green leaves and produces bushy, bristly seed spikes with long, spreading awns. It thrives in dry, rocky, or gravelly soils in sagebrush deserts and mountain openings and is ideal for post-wildfire rangeland re-seeding, invasive weed competition, and arid soil stabilization.
