Blue Wildrye

Elymus glaucus

Blue Wildrye (Elymus glaucus) is a perennial grass native to Western US states (such as Washington, Oregon, California, and Montana) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 2–5 feet with an upright bunching growth habit, it features flat, broad, glaucous blue-green leaves and produces long, erect seed spikes with bristly awns. It thrives in moist to dry forest openings, savannas, and burn sites and is ideal for post-fire forest revegetation, watershed erosion control, and wildlife forage.
