Hardstem Bullrush

Hardstem Bulrush (Schoenoplectus acutus) is a perennial forb native to US states nationwide (such as Washington, Minnesota, Nebraska, and New York) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9. Reaching a mature height of 5–10 feet with a tall, erect, rhizomatous sod-forming growth habit, it features firm, dark green, spongy cylindrical stems and produces compact, brownish spikelet clusters near the stem tip. It thrives in shallow freshwater to brackish marshes, lake margins, and wetlands and is ideal for wetland restoration, shoreline bioengineering, and waterfowl habitat protection.
