Festuca microstachys
Six-Weeks Fescue / Small Fescue (Vulpia bromoides / Festuca bromoides) is an annual grass native to Western US states (such as California, Oregon, and Washington) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive annual grass that can thrive in USDA Zones 6–9. Reaching a mature height of 6–15 inches with a slender, tufted bunching growth habit, it features narrow green leaf blades and produces one-sided narrow seed panicles. It thrives in dry, sandy, or shallow soils in open fields and disturbed slopes in full sun and is ideal for temporary ground cover, dry soil stabilization, and winter annual forage.
