Smooth Blue Aster

Smooth Blue Aster is found in the eastern half of North America where it blooms late into the year, commonly outlasting the early frosts of the fall.

Its lavender-blue flowers can be seen from September-October and in some cases into November
Growing from 1-3 feet in height, it gets its name from its smooth leaves, which are uncommon compared to most asters
Occupying prairies and open woodlands, it tolerates many soil conditions but prefers well drained soils and full sunlight
This perennial is easy to grow and can be long lived if not overcrowded with competition
Attracts pollinators and butterflies when in bloom and is consumed by deer in its early stages
Makes a great component of native gardens and conservation plantings.
