Formerly Carex lanuginosa. Cool season, rhizomatous, native perennial grasslike. Occurs in marshy wetland areas, moist prairies and sites that can dry during the summer. Presence may indicate historical disturbance. Moderate to high palatability to livestock and wildlife and seeds are consumed by numerous birds. Useful for riparian and wetland reclamation.
